Maury Library (The US Navy Library at Stennis Space Center) The World's Largest Oceanographic Library With over 400,000 volumes of information, the Matthew Fontaine Maury Oceanographic Library, located at the Naval Oceanographic Office at Stennis Space Center, MS contains one of the world's foremost collections of oceanographic materials. From modern CD-ROMs to handwritten 18th century ship's logs, the library is noted for the technical diversity of its holdings. It is a valuable resource for scientists in government, academia, and private industry.
Major collections, including journals, books, and translations, are made in the fields of physical, geological, biological, and chemical oceanography with overlap into ocean engineering and marine technology. Other major areas represented include international hydrography, underwater acoustics, signal processing, geophysics, computer science and mapping. The library also carries materials relating to a variety of special interests, among them underwater photography, manned and unmanned submersibles, meteorology, and computers at sea.
All materials are entered into the Science and Technology Information Library Automation System (STILAS). Users may view the library catalog via the World Wide Web ( Webcat ) to check the availability of materials.

USM Libraries on the Hattiesburg Campus Joseph Anderson Cook Library
"The Joseph Anderson Cook Library is in the heart of the Hattiesburg campus. An addition and renovation project, completed in 1996, provides ample space for physical collections, services, staff, and public seating. There are 1,353 seats for patrons set in public, quiet study areas. The library houses the Music Resources Center and the Curriculum Materials Center , which supports the Education program. The University is a selective depository for United States government publications, receiving approximately fifty percent of the items offered through the Government Printing Office. The microforms collection in Cook Library is one of the largest of its kind in the region, with over 4.8 million units in the collection. Other resources located in Cook Library include 21 group study rooms, 77 research carrels, over 175 public access computers, a laptop checkout program, and two instruction rooms. The library also provides extensive electronic services ( http://www.lib.usm.edu/ ) including electronic journals, databases, document acquisition, and tutorials. Cook Library also houses the School of Library and Information Science, the largest iTech computer lab on campus with extended evening hours, and a Starbucks Coffee Shop. Cook Library is open 98 hours per week."

"The William David McCain Library and Archives buiding was built just south of Cook Library in 1976. It houses the University's archives and special collections such as the Mississippiana Collection, the de Grummond Children's Literature Collection, USM theses and dissertations, and oral history transcripts, among many other items."
"The Gunn Educational Materials Center was established in 1965 by the College of Education and Psychology, as the Curriculum Materials Center . It was named on April 23, 1988, in honor of Dr. Eric McCoy Gunn, former dean of Education and Psychology. It is housed in the Cook Library"
Other USM Libraries USM Gulf Coast Library ( Long Beach )
The Gulf Coast Library at Long Beach , opened in 2002, provides library services to support programs on the Gulf Coast . The library houses books, journals, newspapers, media, curriculum materials, group study rooms, and a computer lab. Faculty, staff, and students have access to other Southern Miss Libraries collections through a shuttle service between campuses for the delivery of books and other printed materials. The Gulf Coast Library is currently housed at Gulf Coast Student Service Center in Gulfport until Katrina renovations are completed.

Gunter Library (GCRL, Ocean Springs)
The Gunter Library is located in the Richard L. Caylor Building at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL), Ocean Springs , MS campus. The Library provides technical information for the research staff, resident faculty and students, and visitors. Included are files of abstracts and reprints, books and journals, expedition reports, dissertations, and reference works. Special book collections support the academic program of the Laboratory. The Gunter Library is a unique resource designed to support research, education, and service in the marine sciences.
